biography

Miranda Macpherson is a non-denominational spiritual teacher, counsellor and author of the spiritual guide-book ‘Boundless Love’. She has been teaching internationally since 1995, and is known for her depth of Presence, compassion and capacity to guide people into direct experience of The Sacred.

Born and raised in Australia, Miranda began her spiritual path after a dramatic initial awakening in her teens. Miranda was so profoundly impacted that from then onwards, she passionately explored many avenues of meditation, psychological and spiritual approaches to human transformation. Her initial professional career began in the media. After three years studying at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, she came into early success as a television presenter, but was quickly dis-illusioned by the media. By the age of 22 Miranda decided to dedicate herself entirely to further spiritual study and practice, and relocated to the UK. Within a few years she began a thriving spiritual counseling practice, and has been in full time spiritual service ever since.

During her mid twenties Miranda entered seminary training in New York City. There she studied the primary religions and mystical traditions, and their application to daily life. Miranda graduated and was ordained an interfaith minister in 1995, and was asked by her then teacher Rabbi Joseph Gelberman to create a similar training in the UK. In 1996 she founded the ground-breaking educational non-profit ‘The Interfaith Seminary’ in London, where she was spiritual director for a decade. This was the first non-traditional seminary training in Europe, and made a major impact to the spiritual landscape in the UK. The work Miranda pioneered with the Interfaith Seminary helped make it possible for those outside conventional religious structures receive quality non-doctrinal spiritual care in times of life cycles and crisis.

Over a period of ten years Miranda crafted and delivered a life changing program of inclusive spirituality, spiritual counseling and contemporary ministry to approximately 1000 students whom she worked with intensively for a minimum of three years; many who were themselves veterans of the spiritual path coming from plural spiritual traditions. During this decade, she honed her own awareness, teaching skills and developed a wealth of experience in supporting individuals and groups in profound spiritual opening. Additionally, Miranda ran a private spiritual counseling practice, spoke inspirationally at numerous conferences and facilitated retreats in respected centeres such as the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland, OneSpirt in New York and in Thiruvanamai in India.

Miranda is known for her breadth as well as depth of approach, and refined capacity to help people unwind patterns of suffering. Her primary spiritual influences have been a blend of east and west: esoteric and psychological. Extremely devotional by nature, Miranda began serious spiritual practice as a teenager in Raja yoga, then as a Mevlevi Sufi in her early twenties, and studyied Zen meditation with Roshi Eileen McKinnes, alongside various progressive transformational and psychological healing modalities. Thereafter, for fifteen years Miranda was immersed in the teachings of esoteric Christianity and spiritual psychology within ‘A Course in Miracles’, guided by her teacher Tom Carpenter. Miranda wrote and taught extensively within this teaching stream.

In her mid thirties, on one of her many pilgrimages to India, Miranda was graced by a profound non-dual awakening in the cave of Ramana Maharshi, which had a huge impact on her awareness, and changed the orientation of her teaching. She handed over the Interfaith Seminary into the leadership of others, enabling space to dive deeper into non-dual self inquiry as taught by Ramana, and exploring how to best help people awaken in a deep and real way that does not fall into the common advaita trap of by-passing the relative human experience.

Miranda’s work today is a synthesis of Self-Inquiry, spiritual psychology and feminine Grace that embraces every dimension of human experience. Most apparent is Miranda’s depth of Presence, experience, and integration of approach, which translates in her ease in speaking to people in their language and level. She transmits from an authenticity that arises out of her own awakening. A gifted communicator, Miranda shares from the heart through verbal, silent and energetic means and is a passionate advocate for the explicit need in these times for the True Feminine in spiritual awakening – leading from the ground of unconditional love, compassion for our humanness, deep grace, intuition, receptivity and surrender.

Miranda is now based in the Bay Area of California, and travels and teaches internationally. She is currently writing a new book on non-dual awakening from the feminine perspective.
